Sensex trades higher; Nifty around 24,350; Metal, Pharma stocks down

Indian Markets were trading within thin range in the afternoon trade on Tuesday. In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 was ahead by 0.42 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was higher by 0.44 per cent.



Meanwhile, Gold prices have experienced significant volatility in recent months due to global uncertainty and shifting investor sentiment.



On the corporate front, TVS Motor Company’s share price faced selling pressure on April 29, declining 4.4 per cent in intraday trade on the BSE.



At 14:55 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80316.37 up by 98 points or by 0.12 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24356.45 up by 27.95 points or by 0.11 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 80661.31 and intraday low of 80122.02 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24457.65 and intraday low of 24290.75.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1497.65,+2.46%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1399.30,+2.25%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 231.05,+1.67%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1570.75,+1.38%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1500.70,+1.25%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11866.35,-2.00%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 302.65,-1.94%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1810.85,-1.68%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 356.40,-1.33%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 425.35,-0.80%), among others.



Among the sectors, IT index was at 35294.9 up by 444.23 points or by 1.27%. Zensar Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 749.00,+3.91%), AXISCADES Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 840.00,+3.70%), Intellect Design Arena Ltd. (Rs. 790.00,+3.60%), Sonata Software Ltd. (Rs. 375.35,+3.53%), LTIMindtree Ltd. (Rs. 4605.95,+2.69%),.



On the flip side, Metal index was at 29168.21 down by -292.92 points or by -0.99%. Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 389.10,-2.01%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1036.30,-1.73%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 115.05,-1.54%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 157.50,-1.47%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 445.95,-1.45%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4204 , shares advanced were 1910 while 2126 shares declined and 168 were unchanged.
