Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty hold gains; Bajaj Finserv top loser

Indian benchmarks continued to trade in positive terrain during the noon trading session amid mixed global cues. In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 was lower by 0.11 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was behind by 0.85 per cent.



Meanwhile, Indian rupee has extended the gains as it is trading 22 paise higher at 85.03 per dollar against Tuesday's previous close of 85.25.



Among key shares, shares of Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv are currently trading significantly lower in Wednesday's intraday session on the BSE, falling by up to 7 per cent and 6 per cent respectively. BPCL gained 2 percent and HPCL rose 1.3 percent as oil headed for its worst-ever April on demand concerns.



At 12:34 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80382.14 up by 93.76 points or by 0.12 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24349.7 up by 13.75 points or by 0.06 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 80478.73 and intraday low of 80055.87 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24395.2 and intraday low of 24268.80.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12202.15,+3.00%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 307.90,+1.53%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1826.20,+1.19%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2348.15,+1.10%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1927.40,+1.00%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1947.10,-5.71%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 8612.40,-5.25%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 644.25,-3.21%), State Bank of India (Rs. 790.70,-2.59%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11714.80,-1.28%), among others.



Among the sectors, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 26715.58 up by 225.63 points or by 0.85%. Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 195.40,+5.56%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 138.85,+2.28%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 316.40,+2.18%), Oil India Ltd. (Rs. 411.00,+1.71%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 191.65,+1.16%),.



On the flip side, PSU index was at 18820.06 down by -106.46 points or by -0.56%. Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd. (Rs. 310.25,-3.32%), UCO Bank (Rs. 31.15,-2.90%), State Bank of India (Rs. 790.05,-2.67%), Gujarat Gas Ltd. (Rs. 456.55,-2.46%), IFCI Ltd. (Rs. 42.88,-2.21%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4039 , shares advanced were 1253 while 2612 shares declined and 174 were unchanged.
