Indian markets ended a volatile trading session in the negative territory on Wednesday. Indian shares swung between gains and losses before ending marginally lower on Wednesday due to trade-related uncertainties and rising tensions on the borders with Pakistan.
On the global front, Asian stocks ended mixed on Wednesday after a slew of U.S. companies suspended or tweaked their full year guidance and regional factory activity data disappointed. Chinese shares ended lower on growth worries after a survey showed China's factory activity contracted at the fastest pace in 16 months in April.
Whereas European stocks opened higher on Wednesday amid expectations of a potential trade deal with the United States. The U.K. market is up marginally around noon on Wednesday, extending is long winning streak, amid easing worries about trade tensions.
On the other side, Oil extended losses on Wednesday and headed for its biggest monthly fall in three years due to uncertainty over U.S. trade policy and global economic growth. Gold prices fell more than 1 percent on Wednesday while the dollar gained as Sino-U.S. trade tensions eased and investors looked forward to key U.S. economic data for new insights into the Federal Reserve's rate trajectory.
On the corporate front, Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company hit a six-month high at ₹741.20, gaining 4 per cent on the BSE in Wednesday’s intra-day trade. Shares of pharma company Blue Jet Healthcare surged around 6.5 per cent on Wednesday to hit an intraday high of ₹730.10 on the NSE.
The 30-share benchmark ended at 80242.24 down by -46.14 points or by -0.06 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24334.2 down by -1.75 points or by -0.01 %.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 80525.61 and intraday low of 79879.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24396.15 and intraday low of 24198.75.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12207.00,+3.04%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1863.70,+2.18%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1830.20,+1.41%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 306.65,+1.12%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1923.75,+0.81%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1952.40,-5.45%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 8635.70,-4.99%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 644.15,-3.22%), State Bank of India (Rs. 788.15,-2.91%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11645.00,-1.87%), among others.
