MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a negative note on Wednesday. Trends on GIFT Nifty indicate a negative start for the broader index in India, with a loss of 71.5 points or 0.29 percent. The Nifty futures were trading around 24,358.50 level.

Meanwhile, Asian markets were broadly lower this morning as downbeat factory activity data from China and Japan added to tariff-related worries and fears of an U.S. economic slowdown.

In the commodities market, Oil extended losses and headed for the worst April performance on record amid signs that the U.S.-led trade war is hurting economic growth and energy demand.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 80288.38 up by 70.01 points or by 0.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24335.95 up by 7.45 points or by 0.03 %.

On the global front, Dow Jones gained 0.75 per cent to end at 40,527.62, the S&P 500 climbed 0.58 per cent to close at 5,560.83, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.55 per cent to settle at 17,461.32. Futures tied to S&P 500 were down 0.38 per cent, while Nasdaq 100 futures declined 0.53 per cent, and Dow Jones futures declined 0.13 per cent.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Bharat Electronics Ltd. 57883471.00, Eternal Ltd. 32761971.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. 32538970.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 25758449.00, Wipro Ltd. 16647246.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 311.28 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 102696.54 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 152089 with a total turnover of Rs. 26759.86 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1252779 with a total turnover of Rs. 77916.18 Crore.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 77532558 with a total turnover of Rs. 14063424.62 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 4889870 with a total turnover of Rs. 328652.60 Crore.

The FIIs on 29/04/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 11683.58 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 421.64 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 9173.93 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1655.80 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2509.65 Crore and Rs. -1234.16.
